What is a Fingers & Toes Print?
A Fingers & Toes print is a beautiful handmade ceramic tile keepsake. Each tile is impressed with your child’s handprint or footprint, along with your child’s name and age if you so choose.

We have created many design options, from simple to more fanciful, to enhance the most beautiful part of the tile—the handprint or footprint—while suiting your personal style and color preferences.

All tiles are carefully hand-painted and undergo a dual firing process in our studio kiln. We go to great lengths to make each tile as beautiful as it can be, with a focus on revealing as much detail in the hand- or footprint as possible.

We feel great joy in presenting you with a beautiful keepsake you will treasure.

What makes Fingers & Toes prints different?
It’s definitely the same concept as the old hand-in-plaster print you made in kindergarten. It was a great concept; it just needed to be spiffed up a bit. Here’s what makes ours special:

• Attention to detail: People tell us they love that our designs highlight the most important part of the tile—your child’s handprint or footprint—in a way that shows as much detail as possible and creates a beautiful piece you’re happy to display in your home.

• Design options: We always say that no matter how you capture it—on paper, in clay, or as a muddy print on your rug—a child’s handprint or footprint is beautiful. Our designs accentuate the print, much like a frame enhances a beautiful photograph. Whether you prefer a style that is classic and simple, fun and colorful, or more artistic and fanciful, we’re confident you’ll find a design you love.

• High quality: We create our prints using high-quality clay and a process that results in a piece that is as durable as it is beautiful.

How does the process work?
Making a Fingers & Toes print is easy and fun. Simply bring your child to our South Minneapolis studio or to a scheduled off-site location (schedule). Then the fun begins.

1. Look through the design options and select your favorite.

2. Determine what type of print you’d like (single impression, double impression, etc.)

3. Select a color scheme based on the available options for the design you’ve chosen.

4. Select a shape for your tile based on the design options and the number of impressions you’d like included on the tile.

After you’ve decided, out comes the clay and in goes the hand, or foot, or feet, or hands, or hand and foot. You get the idea. It’s a quick, gentle process using non-toxic clay.

After you leave, we get to work—cutting, stamping, shaping, drying, painting, firing, glazing, obsessing, perfecting. And voila! In about four to six weeks, your beautiful Fingers & Toes print is complete. We’ll call you to arrange a time for you to pick up your print (at our studio or at the store at which we made the print) or for us to drop it off.

How do I choose?
We truly love them all. But we will help you narrow the field based on styles and colors you love most.

How old must my child be?
There’s no age requirement or limit. We’ve made prints for babies just a few days old, as well as children of all ages. Our eldest client? Our 100-year-old grandmother and mother.

What if my child won’t cooperate?
We haven’t met a child we don’t adore, and we haven’t encountered a hand or foot we can’t print. All children have difficult days. If your child decides to dig in his or her heals—but just not into the clay—we’ll try to amp up or play down the fun and encouragement, or we’ll schedule another session at no cost.

What are the complementary pieces?
Just like your baby or child, we’ve only just begun. We are continually creating new pieces based on our current designs and new designs in the works. Check back for new products coming soon.

How long will it take to receive a print?
It generally takes 4-6 weeks.

How do I display the tile?
There are many options. Some of our favorites include:

• Hanging: We will make holes in each tile that accommodate a beautiful ribbon for hanging your tile.

• Desk or bookshelf display: You can easily display your tile using a plate stand.

• Shadow box: Your Fingers & Toes print can be mounted to the back of a shadow box. We’ll recommend a strong adhesive to ensure your tile will stay mounted.

Is the process safe?
Absolutely. We use non-toxic clay and wipe your child’s hands and/or feet clean after each impression.

How do I pay for my print?
Payment can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard) upon ordering.

What if my tile breaks?
Yikes. We’ve been there. Remember those little bronzed shoes? One move too many took care of those in our family.

Fingers & Toes prints are durable, and if treated with tender loving care, they will last for generations. However, because they are ceramic, they are breakable. Unfortunately, we do not make a permanent mold of the print, so we cannot replace it if it breaks. But we are always available to make another.

We haven’t had a studio accident yet, but should one occur, we will make a new print in the most convenient way possible for you and at no cost.
